Centering ceiling · Gem Mint

A ceiling from centering alone. Corners, edges and surface can only lower the grade.

A little precision goes a long way.

What is centering?

Centering compares the opposite printed border widths. Equal borders are 50/50. We measure at three stations and use the most off-center part.

Front or back?

Graders allow different tolerances on the two faces. Measure both for a combined ceiling. Changing Front/Back only recalculates grades.

Why a ceiling, not a grade?

A photo of the borders cannot grade corners, edges or surface. Good centering allows a grade; it does not promise it.

What about borderless cards?

On a full-art front there may be no consistent border to measure. Measure the back, or set the lines if you know the print geometry.

How do I take a good photo?

Take the card out of its sleeve, put it flat on a dark surface, and shoot straight above. Avoid reflections and fill most of the frame.

Where does my photo go?

Nowhere. Decoding and measurement happen on your device. No uploads, cookies, accounts or analytics. Only language and your chosen card size are remembered.

What is Centering Lab?

Centering Lab is a free card centering checker that measures front and back centering from a photo and shows the best grade centering allows at PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC. It runs in your browser: photos are never uploaded.
